Welcome to the world of Theology. You may think that theology is old school, irrelevant for our fast-paced modern times. But at Laidlaw College, Theology is a passion. Experienced lecturers will lead you on a quest to discover how biblical and systematic theologies are vibrant and relevant for our current times.
So what does Theology involve? Students will engage with the text on which theology is based – the scriptures. Theology calls students to pause and reflect on the relationship that God has with the world. It also encourages students to continue their engagement with the world, but with a fresh perspective shaped by the scriptures and by robust discussion with staff and other students.
Whatever you think Theology is – you’re sure to be surprised by what you will encounter at Laidlaw. This challenging, life-changing experience can be gained through study in the followingprogrammes.

Programme Summary
The world needs leaders who can deal with the
complexities of a rapidly changing world. Laidlaw College is shaping
these leaders through the Bachelor of Theology degree. Students will
find out how to think imaginatively about issues that affect all of life
and society. They will be expected to think critically about these
issues and come to actual solutions that will bring about positive
change. In the process, students will also
grapple with the
questions: “Who is Jesus and what has he done?” and “What does it mean
to be human?”
The Bachelor of Theology is a primary theological degree for students whose intended ministries will include a significant academic component, and/or the possibility of further research in biblical and theological studies. It is strongly recommended for those who wish to have a theological grounding for higher academic qualifications and is commended as a good grounding for pastoral or other ministries as well.
Students enrolled in this programme will tackle three main subject areas: Biblical Studies; Christian Thought and History; and Pastoral, Missional and Contextual Studies. Students will be required to complete a major in one of these three subject areas and minors in the other two subject areas. All students must complete four core courses which are found in every Laidlaw degree programme: Biblical Theology, Ways of Knowing, Worldview, and Formation.
The degree consists of two parts:
| Part A | |
| Part A consists of 120 credits which must be completed before proceeding to Part B. Part A is made up of the following papers: | |
| 111.515 Biblical Theology | 201.515 Theology: Introduction |
| 120.515 Old Testament: Introduction | 301.515 History of Christianity: Early Church to Reformation |
| 140.515 New Testament: Introduction | 401.515 Formation |
| plus two further 15 credit papers | |
| Part B | |
| In Part B students select papers which enable the completion of a Major of 135 credits in one field and the minimum requirements in the other fields. The Programme Guide below lists the requirements of each Major which are to be fulfilled after the completion of Part A. |

Programme Summary
Many Laidlaw students are graduates of universities and other institutions. Living on the basis of the gospel in their various professions can be a difficult challenge. For these individuals, the Graduate Diploma in Theology can help them make better connections between the gospel and the various professions and disciplines they have chosen to focus.
Having completed a previous degree, students bring a unique vantage point to approaching their study of theology. The Graduate Diploma can enhance the experience and knowledge they already possess, helping them to better understand what they know and believe and to translate this understanding with grace and wisdom into their own context.
