Fiona Fey Student Support Manager / Student Experience Co-Lead Disability Liaison

  • BMin, MTh

Fiona is the Co-Lead of the Student Experience team who supports applicants and students in their study journey from enquiries to graduation. Her primary responsibility is to lead the Student Support team to ensure our students receive holistic support during their studies.

Fiona is the go-to advisor for course planning and navigating academic journeys primarily for the Henderson Campus theology students. For Henderson on-campus students, she is the dedicated academic support person, ready to help map out study plans and tackle those assignments that feel daunting at first glance.

Her role is deeply focused on student well-being. For students who need to navigate studies while managing a long-term illness or disability, Fiona and her team provide personalised support, if there is a need for it; whether it's a regular check in to ensure everything is on track or stepping in as an advisor and advocate to access resources or accommodations students need to reach their academic goals.

Fiona is also involved in producing Stimulus, the New Zealand Journal of Christian Thought and Practice.

Fiona completed a Certificate in Teaching People with Disabilities at AUT in 1995 before spending several years as a support worker for people with disabilities. She went on to complete a Bachelor of Ministries at Laidlaw College in 2007. After a break from study, Fiona completed her MTh during the August 2020 lockdown by submitting her thesis, "The Church as True Communities of Belonging for People with Disabilities.”

On weekends, you'll often find Fiona and her husband lacing up their running shoes at a parkrun or participating in a running event somewhere on the motu with their running club friends, or soaking up the fresh air in the great outdoors. Fiona has been involved with her church, Forrest Hill Presbyterian for quite some time. She has served there as the Youth Pastor and is presently serving as an Elder. Fiona holds an advisory role on the Disability Advisory Group at the Australian College of Theology.
